COM3035: Raster Graphics 2
- Students build on the knowledge and skills acquired in Raster Graphics 1 by using raster editing software to create advanced raster graphics.
- Prerequisite: COM2035: Raster Graphics 1
Assignment - Create and Edit Raster Images
- set up a document, considering:
- bit size
- colour profile
- pixel aspect ratio
- organize and manage image files using correct file conventions, including:
- compression methods
- colour support
- adding metadata to an image
- correct, paint and retouch images by:
- correcting tonal range
- adjusting colour range
- use a painting tool by creating, editing and using a custom brush
- work with selections by:
- modifying selections
- previewing selections
- create and use layers, explaining the use of layer comps and comparing to layer groups
- work with masks and channels to:
- explain the use of channels
- create, view and edit channels
- differentiate between a layer mask and a vector mask
- use a clipping mask
- convert to or from a selection, a channel and a mask
- work with vector tools to:
- manage paths
- alter properties of type
- automate tasks by:
- creating and using automated actions; e.g., batch action
- describing the difference between actions and scripting
- creating variables
- manage colour by:
- discussing colour management issues and proper actions to take
- discussing the relationship between the colour gamut and rendering intents
- create, edit and convert a high dynamic range (HDR) image
- prepare an image for output by:
- explaining the relationship between the application and the print driver
- setting correct colour management options
- creating output for the Web and/or mobile devices
Competencies and Skills
You will also be evaluated on your basic competencies such as your ability to:
- identify short-term and long-term goals
- identify steps to achieve goals
- communicate
- manage information
- use numbers
- think and solve problems
- demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviours
- be responsible
- be adaptable
